After his success on the grass courts at Queens last week, expectation is even greater than ever for Andy Murray to be crowned Singles Champion at Wimbledon 2009.
As well as Murray being in pre-tournament form, his journey to the final will be made a little easier knowing that the current Wimbledon champion, Rafa Nadal has been forced to pull out of the competition through injury.
In Nadal’s absence, Andy Murray is now placed in the top half of the draw, so will miss a confrontation with Roger Federer unless he goes all the way.
Whereas Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski were never really true contenders to be the first British Singles Champion since Fred Perry in 1936, Andy Murray has a real chance this year. But to win he must stop Roger Federer winning his record breaking 16th Grand Slam.
Following last year’s epic Nadal versus Federer final, imagine the fever pitch excitement if come Sunday week, the two top seeds – Andy Murray and Roger Federer go head-to-head in the Wimbledon Singles Final 2009.
