Murray to face Roddick in Wimbledon semi final

John Williams - Wednesday 01.07.09, 19:39pm

Andy Roddick came through a marathon match against old rival Lleyton Hewitt in the last of the Wimbledon Men’s singles quarter final matches, to set up a semi final against second seed Andy Murray.

Roddick and Hewitt enjoyed a thrilling but ultimately exhausting match that lasted three hours and 50 minutes. Roddick eventually winning  6-3, 6-7(10-12) , 7-6(7-1), 5-7, 6-4.

Murray won the earlier quarter final in spectacular fashion, brushing aside the challenge of Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero in three sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-2. The young Scot becomes the first British player to reach a Mens Singles semi final since Tim Henman in 2002.

Both Murray and Roger Federer, who plays Tommy Haas in the other semi final, are favourites to win through to Sunday’s final.
