Andy Murray produced some of his best tennis ever to overcome Rafael Nadal’s conqueror Juan Martin del Potro in the semi final clash at the Miami Masters. Murray described his play during the first set as ‘perfect’ and said that it would be a benchmark for his future game.
The Briton won the match convincingly 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, taking full advantage of an opponent that often looked drained of energy following his beating of Nadal in the quarter finals.
“In the first set I mixed it up a bit and kept him moving around. I knew he would be tired after the Nadal game so that’s what I tried to do.” said Murray.
Murray will meet Novak Djokovic in today’s final, the Serbian ranked third in the world rankings saw off number two, Roger Federer 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. That match ended with an angry Federer smashing his racquet and uncharacteristically ranting:
“I didn’t lose it. I was just frustrated. Just because I smashed the racquet doesn’t mean I lose it. Didn’t feel great, it’s just a natural thing I did. I finished worse than him. He played so bad in the first set, I had a great effort by finishing even worse than him.”
