Laura Robson World Junior No.1

Laura Robson World Junior No.1

Fifteen year old tennis sensation Laura Robson who won the Wimbledon girls final last year, has claimed the number one spot in the World Junior rankings. She replaces Thailand’s Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, the girl that she beat in the Wimbledon final.

Robson won her first professional title in Sunderland in November 2008 and  followed that in January this year by reaching the final of the Australian Open Junior Tournament, where she lost out to the Russian Ksenia Pervak.

Robson is currently British number 13 and the youngest player in the top 30 juniors. She is ranked at a career best of 499th in the world senior rankings. She has already been offered a wild card in this years Wimbledon qualifying tournament.

Although there has been nothing short of praise for Laura Robson since that incredible Wimbledon victory, the experts are careful not to get carried away when talking about her prospects in World tennis. At fifteen years old the Australian born Robson shows incredible promise and former players such as Virginia Wade and Annabel Croft are agreed that we have to be careful with the expectations that we put on the player.
