Seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is to return to cycle racing in Europe this week, the first time since announcing his retirement in 2005. The 37 year old American will race in the first one day classic of the season, Milan to St Remo where he will compete as part of the Astana team.
The Milan-St Remo features the longest course in professional cycling at 294km. Armstrong has never failed to finish the race but has yet to finish on the podium in the event.
Armstrong will stay in Europe for next weeks Spanish race, the Tour de Castilla y Leon as he continues towards his goal of an eighth Tour de France title in 2009. The cyclist returned to racing in September last year, announcing his goal of winning another French title while continuing to raise cancer awareness, having survived testicular cancer and a germ cell tumour that metastasized to his brain and lungs in 1996.
