Former international rugby player Lewis Moody M.B.E was called upon to test Elastoplast’s new Extra Tough plaster and it proved a huge success!

The ex-rugby captain and part-time DIY guru has become a viral hit after taking on a Vertical Tiling challenge.

The 33-year-old has turned into a huge sensation on YouTube after being videoed trying to tile a wall whilst being tied to a rope. The ‘Extreme DIY with Elastoplast Extra Tough’ clip involves the sportsman running back and forth with plaster and tiles in a nail-biting race against the stopwatch but the tongue in cheek video shows him falling all over the place as he is catapulted back by the spring.

Despite spilling plaster all over himself and being in a race against the horn, Moody shows just how super sticky, durable and waterproof the new plasters are no matter how extreme the DIY task is!

But why was the sportsman the perfect candidate? The English rugby union player from Berkshire recently announced his retirement from the game in March of this year. With so much spare time on his hands, he has starting to enjoy a spot of DIY as well as take part in extreme sports like wakeboarding. And as many people know, accidents can happen when participating in dangerous sports as well as trying to put up a shelf or fix a leaking tap around the home.

The video has already received over 100,000 views and if you fancy checking out the hilarious clip you can watch it too.

Next week Brits can watch how the Extreme Tough plaster copes against bandsaw skateboards!

For the most part, Liverpool‘s and Chelsea‘s Premier League campaigns to date have been a real disappointment. However, the cup competitions have been a different story. Liverpool captured the Carling Cup in February, defeating Cardiff City on penalties to win their first piece of silverware since the 2006 Community Shield. Meanwhile, Chelsea have advanced to the Champions League semifinals, and after their narrow home win on Wednesday, are halfway to dumping out mighty Barcelona. And next month, the two sides will face off in the 131st FA Cup final, with Liverpool looking for their eighth FA Cup title and Chelsea their seventh.

Chelsea will be considered FA Cup betting favorites, as they’re the stronger side in terms of quality. Also, the new Wembley Stadium has been a home away from home for them in the FA Cup. Since the stadium opened in 2007, they’ve come out on top in all six FA Cup ties they’ve played there, including final wins in 2007, 2009, and 2010.

But they won’t face an easy task to make it seven in seven and claim their fourth FA Cup crown in six years, as Liverpool will be confident about their chances to complete a domestic cup double. That confidence is with good reason, as the Reds have triumphed each of the last four times these two have met. Liverpool have won both meetings this season, claiming two victories in the span of less than a fortnight in late November. A late goal by former Chelsea man Glen Johnson gave Liverpool a dramatic 2-1 league win, and nine days later, second-half goals by Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly condemned Chelsea to a 2-0 defeat in the Carling Cup quarterfinals.

At that time, it looked as if Liverpool could and likely would make a serious run at fourth spot, but that challenge hasn’t transpired due to far too many poor home results and an overall horrid form since the turn of the year. The Reds have won only five of their 16 home league matches this season, and in 2012, they’ve won only three times in 14 league ties. As a result, they currently sit well out of contention for fourth spot, and were it not for their Carling Cup success, could have been fighting it out with local rivals Everton for a place in Europe.

But whatever issues Liverpool have had in the league have been brushed aside in the cups. Along with downing Chelsea and Manchester City en route to the Carling Cup title, they’ve defeated their two fiercest rivals, Manchester United and Everton, during their FA Cup run, with late winners the difference in both of those victories. A cup double and guaranteed European football would help take some of the stain off of a disappointing Premier League campaign, but at the same time, it’d turn up the pressure on manager Kenny Dalglish and his talent-laden squad to deliver on all fronts next season.

For Chelsea, the Champions League final, if they reach it, and their pursuit of a fourth-place Premier League finish take priority over the FA Cup final, but a victory at Wembley will guarantee that the Blues come away with something positive from what’s been quite the rollercoaster season. After an unsuccessful defense of their Premier League crown, Carlo Ancelotti was shown the door, and Roman Abramovich shelled out an eight-figure fee to bring hotshot young manager Andre Villas-Boas from FC Porto. Too many poor results – and perhaps a few other factors – would see AVB booted out in early March, a day after a 1-0 defeat at West Brom.

Assistant manager and former Chelsea star Roberto Di Matteo was promoted to caretaker manager, and that has proved to be a positive turning point in Chelsea’s season. In a run that has seen only one defeat thus far, the Blues have chalked up four consecutive Champions League wins to move from the brink of elimination in the round of 16 to the brink of the a berth in the final, won three in a row in the FA Cup to reach the final, and closed within two points of tottering Tottenham for fourth in the Premier League. It’s too early to say that Di Matteo has earned the permanent role, but he’s certainly made quite the compelling case.

An FA Cup final win will only enhance his claim, and it’ll bring a welcome end to Liverpool’s recent run of success against Chelsea. That run of success – not to mention his lack of it – minimizes the amount of Fernando Torres headlines that there would be going into this matchup if he was in good form against his former side and overall. That being said, that storyline could be ramped up somewhat, in part because Liverpool and Chelsea face off in a league tie at Anfield three days after the FA Cup final. Given that it could be an important fixture in Chelsea’s push for fourth, Di Matteo could opt to do some rotating in his starting XI, and Torres could very well be handed a start at Wembley.

A key Torres goal would make for quite the moment, and all the same, so would Torres missing a golden chance, but even without the Torres element, this is a tasty tie. This matchup has developed into quite the rivalry over the last several seasons, thanks in large part to multiple memorable Champions League meetings. And while Liverpool and Chelsea aren’t currently as strong as they were in those classic clashes, they’re still quite capable of producing a memorable evening. To be frank, the FA Cup needs it. There hasn’t been a truly classic FA Cup final since Liverpool’s thrilling win over West Ham at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in the 2006 final, so it’s safe to say we’re due for one. Will that wish be granted? We’ll find out in a fortnight.

The life of an Olympic athlete must be intense and exciting, especially in the run up to the London 2012 Games. The whole world is anticipating the biggest sporting event of the year which will take place in England’s capital and a number of documentaries have been launched to offer an insight into the talented sports men and women.

But many of the athletes will attain attributes which can be likened to a vehicle such as power, determination, speed and endurance; and these videos will offer a guide into the comparisons.

The films, which have been published on YouTube, focus on an Olympic or Paralympic athlete from the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. In support of the London Games, the documentaries explore what it really takes to deliver the ultimate performance on the world stage be it swimming, gymnastics or more.

Form and Function

This documentary by Richard D’ Argues discovers the tensions between delivering both aesthetics and technical ability in British gymnast Louis Smith’s preparation performance as he aims for gold. And it learns of the equivalents with the development of the new BMW i8.

Beneath the Surface

This film takes a look under the water to see how Rebecca Adlington delivers her ultimate performance ahead of London 2012. Made by Steven Riley, the director of Fire in Babylon, it examines the mental and physical challenges that face the swimming champion.

What are the resemblances to BMW? It explores the surface of the new BMW 3 Series and how its shape, like a swimmer, is important to boost an efficient and dynamic performance.

Dion Harrison, 2008 amateur long distance World Triathlon Champion, demonstrated AlterG’s new unique ‘anti-gravity’ technology at this year’s Triathlon Show, last weekend.

Originally developed in the US by NASA and tested at Nike’s Oregon Research Project by America’s top distance runners, the AlterG treadmill is the only device of its kind in the world that uses ‘Differential Air Pressure’ that can ‘un-weight’ up to 80% of a person’s body weight, allowing for stable support in rehabilitating from injury.

Andrew Caudell, General Manager for AlterG Europe says:

“We are very excited about introducing the AlterG anti-gravity treadmill to the triathlon world. The AlterG is great for anyone who wants to reduce impact during exercise or have a smooth rehabilitation after surgery or injury, and is preferred and used by leading medical professionals and the world’s best athletes and teams.”

Andrew goes on to say;

“The AlterG treadmill enables injured athletes to run and walk without bearing their entire weight, reducing the impact on the body to optimize rehabilitation and physical therapy outcomes. Its Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology applies a lifting force to the body that reduces weight on the lower extremities and allows precise un-weighting, of up to 80% of a person’s body weight, so people can find exactly where the pain stops and natural movement feels good again.”

AlterG Europe have built up an unrivalled reputation in the sports, healthcare and medical markets, having sold treadmills into sixteen out of the twenty UK Premiership football clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, as well as clubs abroad Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in Europe As well as several leading Premiership rugby clubs. In the US anti-gravity treadmills are used by Olympic distance runners, US athletic programs for NFL, MLB and NBA teams, collegiate and University sports programs and the US Olympic Training Centre.

Dion Harrison comments:

“I first used the Alter G treadmill at Balance Performance in London in 2009 to increase my speed on interval work. One session a week over a 10 week block brought my ½ marathon PB within an half Ironman down from 1.18 to 1.15. In August 2011 I returned to use the Alter G as a rehabilitation tool for an achilles injury. The Alter G treadmill has been a crucial part of my rehab.

It has enabled me to start running again which has been a hugely beneficial part of the rehab process. The effect of simply been able to run again and the endorphins it produces can’t be underestimated either. I started running at 60% body weight & purely focused on pain free running. From there, we’ve built it up over 10 weeks to a point where I’m now running 120km a week at 87% body weight and averaging 17kph.”

The Alter-G treadmill can be used for physical therapy, surgical recovery and elder healthcare and maintenance. Other UK customers include health & Leisure club operators, private hospital groups, military rehabilitation units, sport physiotherapists, personal trainers and sports coaches. Anti-Gravity training enables faster rehabilitation in safer conditions.

The fight against doping, violence in stadiums, match-fixing and shady deals by players’ agents demands better-coordinated action at EU level, says a resolution passed by the European Parliament on Thursday.

“The Lisbon Treaty’s entry into force brought about a revolution in sport by creating the first legal basis for this area, Article 165″, said rapporteur Santiago Fisas Ayxela (EPP, ES), in the debate preceding the vote.

Promote sport for girls
MEPs call on the EU to identify and eliminate all obstacles likely to prevent girls and women from doing sports. They underline that “parents’ prohibiting immigrant girls from taking part in sports and swimming at school cannot be tolerated or excused on cultural or religious grounds”. Better representation of women in sports governing bodies – in proportion to the number of qualified women – could help to promote female participation in sport, they add.

Blacklist hooligans
Parliament asks that supporters who are known to be violent or to engage in discriminatory behaviour be banned from all European stadiums. A European data base should enable national authorities to ensure that the ban applies to any international matches played on their territory. MEPs also call on Member States and sports governing bodies to commit to tackling homophobia and racism against athletes.

Make doping a criminal offence
To protect athletes better, MEPs suggest that trafficking in illegal performance-enhancing substances should be treated in the same way as trafficking in illegal drugs. To combat match-fixing, money laundering and illegal betting, MEPs ask that any fraudulent activity be treated as a criminal offence and that a licensing system be put in place for betting operators.

Regulate sports agents
The profession of sports agent should be regulated and subject to a proper official qualification, say MEPs. Agents should have their fiscal residence within the EU and undertake to abide by a code of conduct in order to obtain a licence.

The resolution proposes setting up a European register of agents, which would also list the players for whom they work.

Agents’ fees for transfers should be paid in instalments throughout the duration of the players’ contract, rather than as a lump sum at the time of the transfer, MEPs add.

Combine learning and training
National authorities should ensure that young athletes are able to pursue normal school and higher education studies in addition to their sports training. European recognition of their qualifications and athletic experience should encourage athletes and trainers to take part in exchange programmes on the “Erasmus” model, MEPs add.

The resolution was passed with 550 votes in favour, 73 against and 7 abstentions.
