The daughter of celebrated reggae icon Bob Marley, fashion designer Cedella Marley has been chosen to design the PUMA Jamaican Track and Field team’s Olympic, podium and ceremony wear for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The designs will be worn by the entire team, including three-time Jamaican Olympic gold medallist and fastest man in the world Usain Bolt – with Bolt endorsing the decision, saying that he can’t think of a better person to design Jamaica’s Olympic outfits than Cedella.

The collection will incorporate high tech fabrics and silhouettes engineered to enhance the performance of all the athletes. Cedella Marley’s unique designs have taken inspiration from the vibrant colours and patterns of Jamaica as well as its African roots, and are sure to make the world take notice in the Summer of 2012 – when the world will be watching Bolt in London to see if he will break his own record in the 100m and 200m.

A track runner in high school herself and huge fan of Jamaican athletics, Cedella says her role in creating the Olympic outfits for her home team and home team is an unbelievable honour and something she never dreamed would be possible.

Cedella Marley has been designing clothes since touring with Ziggy Marley and his band, made up of her brothers and sisters, The Melody Makers.

She launched the Catch A Fire brand in 2001, her trademark tailored bohemian style with vivid colours and prints are available from top end department stores across the USA.

Fifty year old former world number one Ivan Lendl is to make a return to tennis this year, even though he has barely picked up a racquet during the last sixteen years, choosing to spend time with his family.

The Czech born player will be joined by the player he beat to win the first of his eight grand slam victories, way back in 1984, none other than John McEnroe.

The pair are among six former tennis stars who will come together for the ATP Champions Tour in Paris in October. While two of the competitors have yet to be announced, Lendl and McEnroe do know that they will be joined by Sweden’s seven time grand slam winner Mats Wilander and the French player Yannick Noah who has enjoyed a career as a recording artist since quitting tennis seven years ago.

John McEnroe has a long memory and is looking forward to turn the tables on Lendl given half a chance, he said;

“Oh boy, l’m looking forward to it. We had some great matches together but it’s been a long time and he hasn’t played for more than 15 years so I think we need to discuss a few things, both on and off the court. I know he’s been working most of the last year to get back into the type of shape he needs to be in, because it doesn’t get any easier as you get older. But we’ll be giving it our all, that’s for sure.”

The ATP Champions Tour takes place at Paris Racing Club in the Bois de Boulogne on October 1st-3rd.

In their capacity as Official Sportswear Partner of the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics, Adidas have announced Stella McCartney as Creative Director for the Adidas Team GB ranges.

She will be responsible for overseeing the design of both the athletes kit and also for a range of fan wear for the sportswear company.

For the first time in the history of the Summer Games, the deal will see a top fashion designer work with a leading sports brand to design competition wear for both the national Olympic and Paralympic Teams.

Adidas, which has designed and provided performance enhancing kit to Team GB since 1984, approached McCartney about the role of Creative Director to ensure that British athletes at London 2012 don’t just have the best performance kit but the most stylish too. As a result, Adidas will continue to develop the most innovative technical products available with the creative design input of a British fashion icon.

Sports fans can now get in on the act as well with a special Adidas Team GB lifestyle range designed exclusively by Stella McCartney. The range will launch in autumn 2010 and will incorporate both women’s and menswear collections.

This appointment is a new development for McCartney who already designs a women’s sports-inspired performance range for the brand – adidas by Stella McCartney.

On Saturday July 3rd a full entry of 5,000 swimmers will take to the waters of the Thames for The British Gas Great London Swim.

The largest outdoor swim in the South of England, the Great London Swim is held on the spectacular setting of the Royal Victoria Dock, and attracts some of the world’s best elite swimmers.

This years event includes Olympic silver and Commonwealth gold medallist David Davies, and 8-time World Champion Thomas Lurz from Germany as well as UK favourite Duncan Goodhew.

Among the celebrities taking part will be supermodel Jodie Kidd and TV/Radio presenter Vernon Kay, they will take part in the one mile swim in the rejuvenated London Docklands Area.

The one mile challenge equals 64 lengths of a 25m swimming pool and is a fantastic challenge for all swimming abilities. Over 10,000 swimmers took the plunge in 2009, from an 86-year-old granddad to a middle aged mother of three with a fear of deep water.

The British Gas Great Swim Series is the UK’s leading outdoor swimming event and consists of five open water swims in Suffolk, London, Strathclyde, Windermere, and a recently announced new swim in Salford.

The event is free for spectators to go along and cheer on their favourites in the competition, with highlights of the event to be shown on TV.
