Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami yesterday, to claim his first Masters title of 2009 to add to the Cincinati and Madrid wins last year.
Murray was in dominating form during the first set, played in the searing afternoon heat of Miami. He broke Djokovic’s serve twice to take a commanding 4-0 lead in the first set and settled the set at 6-2.
Djokovic was on the ropes at the start of the second set as once again Murray broke the Serb’s serve. It was then that Djokovik called for his trainer although he did not receive any medical attention. The delay appeared to unsettle Murray who lost his rhythm completely, allowing Djokovik to take four games on the trot and a lead of 5-2 in the set.
Somehow Murray fought his way back into the set bringing the score to 5-5 in a thrilling period of the match. This time there was no way back for Djokovic and Murray took the title in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
